Washington Convention Center in Washington D.C. Khan also said that this might be his last fight but if the right fight will come, he will still stay at 140lbs.

In the 140lbs, Khan said that if don't get any fights then he will move up to 147lbs. There are bis names in the 147lbs division that he is interested like Berto, Mayweather and Ortiz. But if the right fight will come at 140lbs with opponents like Bradley and Morales then he will stay.

The 36-year-old Ibragimov (30-3-1, 16 KOs) is coming off a split-decision loss to former cruiserweight titleholder Jean Marc Mormeck (36-4, 22 KOs) in December, which ended his winning streak of nine straight victories, including three stoppages.

Ibragimov's biggest win was perhaps his unanimous decision in June of last year over Oliver McCall, whose fifth-round knockout of Lennox Lewis earned him the vacant WBC title in February of 1997.

"I'm working extremely hard for this fight," said Ibragimov. "I have seen Seth Mitchell fight and I know he's a good prospect, but I'm too experienced for him."

"This is a step up in name and competition," said Mitchell (23-0-1, 17 KOs). "But you know me, man, I'm sure that he'll be ready. But in my heart and in my mind, I feel that I'm ready for this step up."

"I don't feel that I need a knockout. In all of my fights, even though I've knocked out 10 of my last 11 opponents, I really don't go out there looking for a knockout. We have a thing called 'textbook,' where we stay behind my jab and finish up my combinations and keep my defense tight. If I go out there and I stay within textbook, then I think that we can get the same result. That's what I've been doing. I haven't looked for the knockouts, they've been just happening for me."

Mitchell will face Ibragimov on the HBO-televised undercard of a main event featuring WBA/IBF junior welterweight beltholder Amir Khan (26-1, 18 KOs) defending against Lamont Peterson (29-1-1, 15 KOs) at the Washington Convention Center.

As the co-feature on Khan-Peterson, Mitchell is part of the first fight in Washington, D.C. since Kevin McBride ended Mike Tyson's career with a sixth-round stoppage in June of 2005.

Khan-Peterson also brings HBO to the Nation's Capitol for the first time since Riddick Bowe defended his WBA heavyweight belt with a second-round knockout of Jesse Ferguson on May 22, 1993. On the Bowe-Ferguson undercard, Roy Jones unanimously decisioned Bernard Hopkins for the IBF's middleweight belt.

"I'm definitely excited to be fighting back at home in front of my fans and on a big stage as the co-main event on HBO," said Mitchell, a graduate of Gwynn Park High of Prince George's County, where he played football as a star linebacker and was named Maryland's Defensive Player of the Year as a senior.

"Ibragimov is my toughest opponent yet on paper, as far as his record and the quality of opposition that he has faced. I'm looking forward to a great fight, and I'm sure that Ibragimov will come to the fight prepared. Come December 10, I will be mentally and physically prepared as well. I am expecting the fight to be tough, but at the same time, I plan on coming out victorious."

Nicknamed, "Mayhem," Mitchell is considered by some to be America's best chance at ending its heavyweight championship drought.

"We have a couple of things and tendancies that we've seen that he does on tape," said Mitchell. "My trainer, Andre Hunter, he does a great job of breaking the opponent down and coming back to me and relating it to me. We'll develop a game plan from there."

"This fight is a true test for Seth Mitchell. He is fighting on HBO against a 'take-no-prisoners' power puncher," said Richard Schaefer, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions.

"I have no doubt that this is Seth Mitchell's time to shine and I can't wait to see him take on Ibragimov on December 10 and continue his rise as the next great American heavyweight."

No U.S.-born fighter has held a heavyweight title since 2007, when Shannon Briggs briefly wore the WBO's strap. In 2006, Hasim Rahman of Baltimore held the WBC belt while the IBF title was held by Chris Byrd.

Puerto Rican-American John Ruiz was the first Latino to have a belt when he became the WBA champ in 2005.
The event, which marks the return of big time boxing to the nation's capital, is set to take place Saturday, Dec. 10 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center and will be televised live on HBO's World Championship Boxing.

"I'm definitely excited to be fighting back at home in front of my fans and on a big stage as the co-main event on HBO," said Mitchell.
A native of Brandywine, Maryland, heavyweight contender Seth "Mayhem" Mitchell (23-0-1, 17 KO's) has proven he is the jolt of energy the division has been looking for. Since his last bout in the area in April of 2010 (a third round technical knockout of Ryan Thompson), the 29-year-old former Michigan State University standout linebacker has gone from prospect to contender, winning seven bouts in a row, all by knockout. In 2011 alone, Charles Davis (second round technical knockout), Evans Quinn (first round knockout) and Hector Ferreyro (third round technical knockout) have all tasted defeat at Mitchell's hands, and he expects to make another statement on December 10.

Winner of nine of his last ten bouts, Tashkent, Uzbekistan's Timur Ibragimov (30-3-1, 16 KO's) is a 1996 Olympian for the Uzbek team who is in the midst of a quest for a world championship. He knows that a win over the undefeated young star Mitchell will move him even closer to that goal. An 11-year professional who has faced former World Champions Oliver McCall, Al Cole and Jean-Marc Mormeck, the 36-year-old is confident that he has the experience, style and determination to issue the highly-touted Mitchell his first defeat.
Roach did some work with Peterson not long ago, and he was impressed with Peterson's speed and power.

During the last few weeks, Roach has heard the rumblings about a possible 2012 showdown between Khan and WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Roach is confident that Khan can beat Mayweather right now. The veteran trainer was hoping that another one of his fighters, Manny Pacquiao, would get to Mayweather first. But, Roach has a feeling Khan is going to get there before Pacquiao. Should Khan defeat Peterson, then Roach is going to push for his boxer to secure the Mayweather fight in 2012.

"I know there has been a lot of talk about another of my fighters, Amir, fighting Mayweather," said Roach to reporter Joaquin Henson." We’ve got Peterson first and funnily enough, I was just in the Olympic training camp with him. It was kind of a mistake but we did a rotation workout and Peterson ended up in my rotation and after two rounds, his trainer found out and pulled him out.

"He has a good style and is very physical so we have a tough fight ahead of us. But after Peterson, we will go after Mayweather. I love that fight, I was hoping Manny would get there first but I know both my fighters can beat him so I have no worries."
Washington Convention Center, which will be televised on HBO's World Championship Boxing in the United States. In a featured undercard attraction, undefeated heavyweight contender Seth "Mayhem" Mitchell of Brandywine, Maryland will return to the DC-area for the first time since April of 2010 to face an opponent to be determined.

"I'm looking forward to returning to the United States to face a worthy challenger like Lamont Peterson," said Khan. "I always said that I wanted to be active and a true World Champion and I will prove it again on December 10. I know Lamont is a strong contender but it doesn't matter that I'm fighting him in his backyard, I'm coming in as the champion and will leave as the champion."

"I'm very happy for my chance to fight for a world title again," said Peterson. "I'm sure Khan will train hard to defend his titles, so I will train harder to take his titles. Winning a world title in my home town is a dream come true."

"We are excited to bring this big night of boxing to our nation's capital and to feature a young, powerful and hungry world champion like Amir Khan against a top-flight contender such as Lamont Peterson who will have his hometown fans cheering him on towards reaching his championship dreams," said Richard Schaefer, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions. "This is going to be a great fight and a fantastic way to end the 2011 championship boxing season."

"Amir has always been adamant that he wants to face the very best in his division and in Lamont Peterson, he is doing just that by taking on an extremely dangerous opponent in his own backyard," said Asif Vali of Khan Promotions. "I have no doubt Amir will be more than ready for this challenge and will put on yet another glittering display for all of his fans."

"Amir Khan is one of the most spectacular fighters in the world and we're thrilled to see him return on World Championship Boxing," said Kery Davis, HBO Sports Senior Vice President of Programming. "This showdown with Lamont Peterson in the nation's capital will be an exciting night on the network. It's a thrill for HBO to be back in Washington for the first time since 1993."

"Capital Showdown: Khan vs. Peterson," a 12-round Unified Super Lightweight World Title Fight for Khan's WBA World Super Championship and IBF World Championship, is presented by Golden Boy Promotions and Khan Promotions and sponsored by Cerveza Tecate, AT&T and DeWalt Tools. The HBO World Championship Boxing telecast begins at 9:45 p.m. ET/ 6:45 p.m. PT.

One of boxing's best, Unified Super Lightweight World Champion Amir "King" Khan (26-1, 18 KO's) has gone from amateur sensation to approaching the top of boxing's pound for pound list in the span of just seven years. A Silver Medalist for England at the 2004 Athens Olympics, the pride of Bolton's began his professional journey in 2005 as one of the most visible athletes in the United Kingdom. He handled the attention and pressure with grace, winning all but one of his first 20 bouts. In March of 2009, he made his first inroads on the international scene with a five round win over Mexico's future Hall of Famer Marco Antonio Barrera and in his next fight just four months later, he became a world champion with a decision victory over Andriy Kotelnik that earned him the WBA Super Lightweight World Title. After stoppages of Dmitriy Salita and former World Champion Paulie Malignaggi, Khan engaged in the 2010 Fight of the Year, when he decisioned Marcos Maidana on December 11. The 24-year-old champion has been just as impressive so far in 2011, defending his title in April with a win over previously unbeaten Paul McCloskey in front of a packed house at the M.E.N. Arena in Manchester, and then added the IBF crown to his trophy case with a fifth round knockout over former World Champion Zab Judah. Khan knows the only way to stay at the top is to keep facing the top talent out there, and that is exactly what he will get in number one rated contender Peterson on December 10.

Lamont "Havoc" Peterson (29-1-1, 15 KO's) is a supremely skilled boxer with the fighting heart that allowed him to not only win 29 of 31 professional bouts, but also survive a harrowing childhood that left him and his brother Anthony homeless on the streets of Washington, DC. By the age of 10, the Petersons found refuge in a local boxing gym and Lamont quickly showed the talent that has led him to this championship bout. A 2001 National Golden Gloves champion and a National Amateur Champion in 2003, Peterson turned professional in 2004 and impressively won his first 27 bouts. In April of 2009, he won the WBO Interim Junior Welterweight World Title with a technical knockout over Willy Blain, but eight months later he would lose his only fight when he was decisioned by undefeated Timothy Bradley. In December of 2010, Peterson battled future Welterweight World Champion Victor Ortiz to a 10 round draw, and on July 29 of this year, the 27-year-old earned a shot at Khan with a 12th round knockout over Victor Manuel Cayo in an IBF elimination bout. He is ready for the challenge Khan will bring, but is confident his hometown crowd will give him the extra push to take Khan's crown.

All it takes is a a decent punch and Khan will be like Bambi on ice on December 10th at the Convention Center in Washington, DC. Khan and his handlers at Golden Boy Promotions have obliviously picked out Peterson thinking he’s got no power and isn’t a threat, but Peterson is going to prove them wrong by taking Khan out.

Peterson has got to take a long look at the Khan vs. Breidis Prescott and Khan vs. Marcos Maidana fights because in both cases, hard punchers went right after Khan from the opening bell and didn’t allow him to run around all night long. Prescott went at Khan in a straight line and by the time Khan realized that he needed to back off, it was too late, he was on the canvas flat on his back.

In the Maidana fight, Khan tried to mix it up with Maidana in the first round, but after knocking Maidana down, Khan was off to the races when Maidana got up and started putting hands on Khan.

All it took for Maidana to make Khan run was a few well placed right hands. Boxing fans wonder why Khan didn’t try to finish Maidana off or throw additional body shots in the fight, it was because Maidana gave Khan a taste of his power and Khan didn’t want to experience the pain from his shots anymore after that.

This is what will happen with Peterson. He’s got to pressure Khan and keep him on the run. A running Khan is a weak Khan, and he’ll do even though he would be better off standing and fighting.
Much of the pre-fight hype is in that direction: What's next for Amir Khan?

But Lamont Peterson is a legitimate contender, and no pushover. He'll also have home field advantage in Washington D.C., and hopes that will put him over the top.

"It’s a dream come true for me. I’ve dreamt about this day many, many times. Just attending the big fights, I would go home and go back to the gym and just wish that one day I would get my opportunity. Well, this is my chance right here to win two world titles here in my hometown.

"I’m sure Khan will be training hard to defend his titles, but I’ll be training even harder to protect my home turf," said the 27-year-old contender.

But Peterson is also expecting a good turnout of British fans coming across the pond to support Khan.

"I don’t think he chose to fight in D.C. because he’s overlooking me or anything like that. I know that a lot of his people will be here, because I’ve fought on his cards in Vegas, and they come all the way to Vegas. So I know they have no problem taking a little quick plane ride over here.

"Hopefully, we buy the tickets before they [Khan fans] come over and buy them, and they can be all my people and none of his. So the crowd can be loud, live and hyping me up and hopefully getting on his nerves."

Khan's team is expecting very strong support from traveling fans.

"We estimate about four to five thousand U.K. fans will make the trip to D.C., and with the support of worldwide fans and local boxing fans, I think Richard [Schaefer] will be very happy," said Asif Vali of Khan Promotions.

"This is the perfect city for this fight. We are happy and very excited to bring such a significant world championship bout to the District," said Schaefer.

"We want Washington to come out in big numbers and support this great fight card so we don't have to wait another 18 years for HBO to come back here for another boxing match."
According to SB Nation's Luke Thomas, the Washington Convention Center will seat 12,000 fans for the fight. Tickets will cost $25.

The stakes are high for both combatants, so the fight ought to offer plenty of drama. Khan risks both his WBA and IBF lightweight championship belts. Peterson, meanwhile, has the opportunity to claim those titles in his hometown.

Khan owns a 26-1 record and has tallied 18 knockouts. Peterson is no slouch himself, as his record stands at 29-1-1 with 15 knockouts.

Though as many as 12,000 people might attend the fight, only two of them are former presidents. Indeed, Khan announced his intention to invite Barack Obama and Bill Clinton to the fight, which would only add to the event's import and appeal.

Khan and Peterson will face off in the Convention Center on December 10 in the first fight the city has seen since former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson lost to Kevin McBride in 2005.

‘We want to bring boxing back to Washington and maybe this will be the first of many fights here,’ said Khan, who turns 25 just two days before the fight. ‘These kinds of fights take me to the next level.’

And for Washington DC native Peterson, the chance to fight in front of his home crowd is a ‘dream come true’. ‘I dreamed about this day many, many times attending the big fights at the Verizon Center. I would go back to the gym and just wish that one day I would get my opportunity,’ said Peterson.

The HBO-televised bout will feature junior welterweight beltholder Amir Khan of England in the first defense of his IBF title against mandatory challenger Lamont Peterson of Washington, D.C. The event is slated for Dec. 10 in Peterson's home town.

The 24-year-old Khan (26-1, 18 KOs), who also holds the WBA belt, has won eight consecutive fights, four of them by knockout.

The 27-year-old Peterson (29-1-1, 15 KOs) won an IBF eliminator with a 12th-round stoppage of Victor Cayo (26-2, 18 KOs) at the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas in July, earning the organization's No. 1 contender status and the right to challenge Khan.

"Man, I have been waiting to fight at home for about three or four years now, so being able to fight at home for a world title? Wow," said Peterson. "You know, that makes it so much more better and so much sweeter being in that it's in D.C., because my past few fights have been on the West Coast."

In fact, Peterson's past four bouts have all been on the West Coast -- one in California, and three in Las Vegas.

Peterson's initial title shot was in December of 2009, when he lost by unanimous decision to Tim Bradley (27-0, 11 KOs) for the WBO belt in Rancho, Mirage, Calif.

Peterson is 2-0-1, with two KOs since falling to Bradley, including a seventh-round stoppage of Damian Fuller in April of last year.

Khan, meanwhile, scored a first-round knockdown and then survived a difficult 10th round to score a unanimous decision victory over hard-punching, WBA interim champion Marcos Maidana (31-2, 28 KOs) of Argentina in December.

On the Khan-Maidana undercard, Peterson and southpaw Victor Ortiz (28-3-2, 22 KOs), of Oxnard, Calif., battled to a 10-round, majority draw, despite Peterson getting dropped twice during the third round of the fight.

Ortiz went on to take the WBC welterweight title from Andre Berto (28-2, 22 KOs) in April before losing it himself via fourth-round knockout to Floyd Mayweather Jr. (42-0, 26 KOs) on Sept. 17.

"I love fighting in Vegas, which is very cool," said Peterson. "But I like looking at a crowd when I'm going into the ring and seeing some faces that I know."

The show will also present 29-year-old heavyweight prospect Seth Mitchell (23-0-1, 17 KOs), of Brandywine, Md., according to Schaefer. Mitchell has scored nine consecutive knockouts and 22 straight victories.

"I'll be able to get some familiar cheers when I do something well in the ring, so hopefully, I'll get people coming out to support me," said Peterson. "I feel like I'm blessed right now to be fighting for two world titles in my home town."

The respective Khan and Peterson camps have long been attempting to find an agreement suitable to all parties, and after much negotiating Schaefer revealed the bout is set. Khan, the WBA and IBF light-welterweight world champion, will take on Peterson, who has only been beaten once in 31 fights.

Three possible destinations have been named for the showdown, with Washington, Detroit or Montreal all on the cards. Schaefer's preference, though, is to have Khan go to Peterson's home town of Washington.

Confirming the deal, Schaefer told ESPN: "I've been talking to [Peterson's manager] Barry [Hunter] for the last couple of weeks and we were going back and forth between what they wanted and what the Khans wanted, trying to bridge the gap and agree on a number.

"And we were finally able to do that, so as a result we have informed the IBF and called off the purse bid."

Peterson represents a significant test for Khan, having previously drawn with Victor Ortiz, who fights Floyd Mayweather Jnr on Saturday night. The American described the Khan deal as a "dream come true".

The only man to have beaten Peterson is Timothy Bradley, who was Khan's first-choice opponent. However, Bradley has been accused of ducking a fight with the Brit, and Schaefer insists courage is something Peterson has in abundance.

"Lamont Peterson is a very skilled fighter with a different skill set than fighters like [Marcos] Maidana or [Zab] Judah," Schaefer said. "It's going to be interesting. Lamont was dropped a couple of times in the fight with Ortiz, but showed the heart, the smarts and the skills to have the fight end up in a draw."

The 24-year-old Khan (26-1, 18 KOs) has won eight consecutive fights, four of them by knockout. The 27-year-old Peterson (29-1-1, 15 KOs) won an IBF eliminator with a 12th-round stoppage of Victor Cayo (26-2, 18 KOs) in July, earning the organization's No. 1 contender status.

"We came to terms with Barry Hunter for Amir Khan, so the purse bid has been called off, and we've informed the IBF," said Schaefer. "The date is going to be Dec. 10, and we're going to be looking at venues. The front runner is Washington, D.C., and possibly Detroit, and there is a strong interested in Montreal as well at the Bell Centre.

Khan debuted in America with an 11th-round knockout of Paulie Malignaggi in May of last year at New York's Madison Square Garden.

Khan made his second appearance on American soil in December of last year, scoring a unanimous decison over Marcos Maidana at the Mandalay Bay Hotel in Las Vegas.

Khan had his third fight in the United States in July, dethroning Zab Judah as IBF titleholder by fifth-round stoppage at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.

"Detroit has a large Muslim population, I believe the largest here in the United States," said Schaefer. "So they're very interested. Washington, D.C., is very interested as well."

On the eve of the 10-year anniversary of 9/11, Khan, a practicing Muslim who is of Pakistani decent, was invited to Washington, D.C. as a guest of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for a dinner honoring prominent Muslim-American athletes.

"Amir was recently in Washington, D.C., at the state dinner with Hilary Clinton, where he was very warmly received. Amir was recognized on the streets in Washington. He was very impressed and he liked it," said Schaefer.

"The locations are all about the same in terms of interest, but I think that it would be nice for Amir to fight in the Nation's Capitol, and to maybe invite Hilary Clinton. We've had him on the West Coast and in New York already."

Schaefer did not rule out going to Canada.

"Amir Khan is a global super star," said Schaefer, "and the province of Quebec fight fans are just great boxing fans, and they would love to have Amir Khan in Montreal."

In February, Peterson passed up a chance to face Khan when talks broke down between Schaefer and Peterson's attorney, Jeff Fried, for an April challenge to Khan's WBA belt over money and a rematch clause.

Peterson, in succession, had been offered $150,000, then, $200,000, and then, $300.000, but the challenger's camp wanted "north of $350,000" to travel to England to face Khan, according to Schaefer.

When the negotiations fell apart, Khan moved on and defended his crown by technical decision over Paul McCloskey in England.

Fried, who represented Peterson and Hunter in the negotiations, had contended that the talks failed more over the notion of a rematch in the event that Khan lost than they did the money being offered.

Reached on Thursday, Peterson expressed optimism about fighting Khan.

"Yes, this is the fight that I want right now. It's the fight that I was looking for, and it's a strong fight for me. It's the best fight that I can get, because I'm fighting the No. 1 guy in the 140-pound weight class and I'm fighting for the title. It's a fight I know that I can win," said Peterson.

"Look, everybody has weaknesses or flaws. Call them whatever you want to. It's up to me now to come up with a game plan with my coach and to come up with a plan to defeat Amir Khan in the ring. Any time that you're in a fight of this magnitude, then it's only going to lead to much, much bigger fights. And the winner of this fight will go on to be in really, really big fights after this."

Prior to facing Cayo, Peterson had last been in the ring in December of last year.

That's when Peterson rose from a pair of second-round knockdowns to salvage a 10-round majority draw against hard-hitting Victor Ortiz (29-2-2, 22 KOs).

Ortiz later rose up to the next-higher weight and dethroned Andre Berto (28-1, 22 KOs) as WBC welterweight titleholder.

Ortiz has a date on Saturday to defend that belt against six-time, five-division titlewinner Floyd Mayweather Jr. on HBO Pay Per View.

"I understand that today Golden Boy and Lamont Peterson's team agreed to terms for the Khan fight. The fight will probably take place in the United States. It could be another good test for Khan," said HBO's Senior Vice President of Sports Kery Davis.

"The Peterson fight against Ortiz, in retrospect, the draw, looks a lot better on the Peterson resume. So we're looking at it as a good test for Khan. I think that Peterson is a pretty good athlete, so that I don't think that he will be overwhelmed by Khan's speed. He's a very sound boxer, so I think that this will be a competitive matchup."

Peterson's initial title shot was in December of 2009, when he lost a clash of unbeaten fighters by unanimous decision to then-WBO beltholder Tim Bradley (27-0, 11 KOs).

"Washington is Peterson's home town, and I can't really remember the last significant fight that HBO has televised in Washington, D.C., so there might be a level of excitement by going there," said Davis.

"Now everyone knows that Detroit has a large Muslim population, so I know that the Khan's have been talking about going to Detroit for some time, so this might be the opportunity for them to do that. So I think that either venue makes sense."
